We were a bit concerned about George’s hearing as we sometimes had to repeat things to him and his teachers said they thought his reading was a bit slow and it might be worth having his hearing checked.
As he’s just 4 we thought it best to speak to our GP first who referred us to Mrs Bateson’s clinic at Pinehill Hospital.
On our first visit she took a full history of George, examined him and then tested his hearing using lots of lovely games which made him cooperate beautifully.
She then went through all the results of the tests with my husband and she diagnosed George as having glue ear explaining that his hearing was quite poor. She explained clearly and patiently exactly what glue ear was and what that meant for George at home and at school listening to his teachers etc.
She immediately referred us to an Ear, Nose & Throat Consultant colleague at Pinehill who saw us and booked for George to have grommets fitted 2 weeks later to help him hear better.
Georges operation ran very smoothly and immediately he woke from the operation his hearing was back to normal which was fantastic.
He very quickly caught up with his reading at school and his teachers now say that he has not only caught up but is now on a higher reading scheme than expected for his age.
I can’t praise Mrs Bateson’s clinic enough. She was so lovely with him and with us and gave us all the information we needed but more importantly made us all feel really comfortable.
